3 Scranton-Area Catholic Hospitals are Shutting Down Because of Obamacare
The other day Father Z posted a little entry about how the “Magisterium of Nuns” is making war on the American bishops. The liberal sisters, who have compromised their Catholic identity, are trying to set up an alternative magisterium over and against that of the actual duly appointed shepherds.
In the debate about Obamacare, for example, the LCWR types and the Sr. Keehan types provided cover so that pro-abortion “catholic” politicians could vote in favor of legislation that, down the pike, would provide federal funding of abortion.
Take a look at this from CatholicVote with my emphases:
Full credit for this post goes to Father Z over at What Does the Prayer Really Say.

Take a look at this from CatholicVote with my emphases:
The bad consequences of Obamacare are on full display in Pennsylvania, but the lessons that the situation provides should motivate us all into taking action nationwide.
Jeffrey Lord at American Spectator has done us all a service by calling attention to the scandal in PA:
Can you say “October Surprise”? A mushrooming political battle over ObamaCare involving the White House, two incumbent Pennsylvania congressmen, three Catholic hospitals and a nun has just exploded in, of all places, Scranton, Pennsylvania. Charges from the Scranton medical community of intimidation by the Obama White House and its allies are filling the air.
It is a long, complex story, which I encourage you to read, but Father Z does a good job of summarizing:
Here’s what you can do to help our mission to educate Catholics and other citizens about the harmful consequences of Obamacare, and about the need to elect responsible, pro-life representatives….
- 3 Scranton-area Catholic Hospitals are shutting down because of Obamacare regulations that are set to go into effect soon. The CEO of the hospitals, Kevin Cook, is on record saying Obamacare is “absolutely” responsible for their painful decision to shut down. There’s a strong posibility the hospitals will be sold to a secular organization which would perform procedures against Catholic teaching. In other words, it is becoming more and more difficult for Catholics to have access to ethical health care.
- Sr. Carol Keehan – the nun and President of the Catholic Health Association, who famously received a “thank you pen” from President Obama for her work in turning Catholic congressman to give up their opposition to Obamacare, has been trying to bully Kevin Cook into changing his story about why his hospitals are closing, because she knows what a political powder keg the headline “Catholic hospitals closing because of Obamacare” will be in this critical election season
- CatholicVote has entered the fray: we’ve recorded a powerful radio ad to air in the Scranton market, so that Catholics and other citizens can know about the harmful consequences of Obamacare in their own district. Congressmen Paul Kanjorski and Chris Carney both voted for Obamacare, and both are facing tough challenges from pro-life alternatives this November.
1. Watch the ad
2. Help us with a small (or large!) donation so we can buy airtime for the ad by clicking HERE.
3. Share this message with your friends and family!
I believe this story is important because it shows in real-life terms that the flawed legislation pushed through Congress and signed into law by President Obama is already hurting the quality of health care offered in this country, and especially hurting Catholic hosptials. It is therefore especially scandelous that some high-profile Catholics, such as Sister Keehan, continue to attempt to obfuscate the truth of the matter because of ideological commitments. Again, I would encourage you to read Jeffrey Lord’s full exposition of this story.
Let’s stop what is happening in PA from happening to other Catholic hospitals across our country!

Who Gives Us Our Rights?
H/T: Joseph Hebert (keep 'em coming, Joseph!)
On September 17, President Obama spoke to the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute 33rd Annual Award Gala.
During his speech - reading from a teleprompter - he quoted from the Declaration of Independence.
Here is what he said: "We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, endowed with certain unalienable rights, life and liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." In quoting this document which I have heard junior high school students successfully memorize and recite, he left out the reference to "Our Creator."
Obama earned a law degree from an Ivy League university and married an equally educated lady. It is highly unlikely that he is unaware that our nation's1st great document written by Thomas Jefferson, the main framer of the Constitution, refers to God as the source of human rights. This document implies that government is not the source of our rights, and therefore government is invalid if it neglects its duty before God to protect our rights.
This one line from the Declaration of Independence is important to the debate between those who believe that humans inherit certain basic rights as a feature of the free will and capacity for reason with which God endowed each individual versus the socialist presumption that humans are merely clever animals who come together communally to invent rights through social contract. Under the 1st model, God is source of human rights. Under the 2nd system, government giveth and government taketh away.
This was not a verbal gaff by a highly educated lawyer reading from a teleprompter before a friendly audience. It was an indication of this man's basic beliefs.
It's really important that people understand where our rights come from according to the Founding Fathers. They never claimed to "give" us any rights.
The Constitution doesn't "give" us rights any more than the TV Guide "gives" us TV shows. . . . . .
If we are tricked into believing that the government gives us our rights, then we will let the government invent new "rights" (abortion, gay marriage, lifelong welfare. . . . ) and take away other rights (bearing arms, private property, public expression of faith. . . . ).
Government is not God.

June is "Celebrate Sexual Deviancy Month" - No, really, it is!
I'll let Jeff Miller and Jimmy Akin tell you about this because I am not feeling so well - kind of dizzy. I almost wish I didn't know this!
Quoted from The Curt Jester (Jimmy Akin):
Here is the official proclamation posted on the White House web site
Quoted from The Curt Jester (Jimmy Akin):
Jimmy Akin on President Obama’s proclamation that June 2010 is Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month.
So there you have it. President Obama taking credit for all he has done to normalize the open practice of sexual deviancy in our society, as well as measures he’d like to take in the future to further normalize it, including “creat[ing] safer schools so all our children may learn in a supportive environment.”Tolerance and “safe environments” will continue to become the blunt records used against anybody who does not believe that sexual deviancy is a right that must be normalized. Not accepting this behavior will get you labeled in oh so many ways and no doubt with words that end in ‘phobe.’ How long before the travesties that have occurred in Canada and England come our way is a good question. The real tragedy is that those who are afflicted with same-sex attraction or other disordered desires are confirmed in their sin instead of being helped.
I wonder if he’d like to require private schools to be “safer” in this way?
And I wonder where all this is going and how long it will be until gets there.
So, what month is Adultery Pride month?
ππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππ
Here is the official proclamation posted on the White House web site
NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim June 2010 as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month. I call upon all Americans to observe this month by fighting prejudice and discrimination in their own lives and everywhere it exists.

Everything Obama's regulatory czar says in this interview is pretty crazy. Everything. But the lowlight is when he says "The word 'voluntary' is a little complicated."
Buckle up, folks, we may be hitting some fascism ahead.

Healthcare Bill - USCCB's Response
By 1 Sarah Rozman
As President Obama signed the healthcare bill into law, the USCCB released a 2 statement from Cardinal Francis George, president of the USCCB. A few highlights:
And Creative Minority Report posted 4 a list of the Catholic representatives who voted “Yes” on the bill. The list went on and on…84 Catholic congressmen voted “yes” on this healthcare legislation.

As President Obama signed the healthcare bill into law, the USCCB released a 2 statement from Cardinal Francis George, president of the USCCB. A few highlights:
- Why the bishops support reform of our healthcare system: “so that all may have access to the care that recognizes and affirms their human dignity.”
- Why the Catholic bishops have opposed this bill’s passage: “There is compelling evidence that it would expand the role of the federal government in funding and facilitating abortion and plans that cover abortion. The statute appropriates billions of dollars in new funding without explicitly prohibiting the use of these funds for abortion, and it provides federal subsidies for health plans covering elective abortions. Its failure to preserve the legal status quo that has regulated the government’s relation to abortion…could undermine what has been the law of our land for decades and threatens the consensus of the majority of Americans: that federal funds not be used for abortions or plans that cover abortions.”
- What the need for an Executive Order signifies: “deficiencies in the statute itself.” The Cardinal continues, “We do not understand how an Executive Order, no matter how well intentioned, can substitute for statutory provisions.”
- Why the bill is “profoundly flawed,” part 2: “It has failed to include necessary language to provide essential conscience protections.” Cardinal George also notes why the bill could leave many immigrant workers and their families “worse off.”
- Why pro-life Members of Congress should be recognized: for their “principled actions…[working] courageously to create legislation that respects the principles outlined above. They have often been vilified and have worked against great odds.”
- What role the bishops play: “As bishops of the Catholic Church, we speak in the name of the Church and for the Catholic faith itself.”
And Creative Minority Report posted 4 a list of the Catholic representatives who voted “Yes” on the bill. The list went on and on…84 Catholic congressmen voted “yes” on this healthcare legislation.

Health Care Reform - I would like to congratulate Barack Obama in his victory over the American people
Hello socialism, nice to meet you.
and Matthew 15:13-14
See who voted yes and no here.
And is this just a political ploy or is this for real?
I asked a person much more knowledgeable than I and here was the answer.
THE REAL ARITHMETIC OF HEALTH CARE REFORM NYTimes.com
All I have to say right now is
John 11:35
Jesus wept.
Out of sympathy with those who were in tears all around him, as well as from a deep sense of the misery sin had brought upon human nature.
and Matthew 15:13-14
- He said in reply, "Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted.
- Let them alone; they are blind guides (of the blind). If a blind person leads a blind person, both will fall into a pit."
- Footnote from USCCB: [13-14] Jesus leads his disciples away from the teaching authority of the Pharisees.
- and Galatians 6:7-8
- Make no mistake: God is not mocked, for a person will reap only what he sows,
- because the one who sows for his flesh will reap corruption from the flesh, but the one who sows for the spirit will reap eternal life from the spirit.
See who voted yes and no here.
And is this just a political ploy or is this for real?
I asked a person much more knowledgeable than I and here was the answer.
The Congress that enacted the bill is unlikely to vote to repeal it and even if that miracle happened, the President would veto and there certainly is no super majority to override.

Nancy Pelosi v. The Catholic Church
Ok, so the music is a bit hokey and the "replays" are a tad theatrical BUT this is a wonderful gathering of very important quotes (with responses). It is refreshing to watch because it cuts to the chase.
I thank Abbey for posting this.
I almost didn't watch it because of the regular (Soutenus excuses) reasons:
. . . . don't have time . . . . . don't want to listen to anything Pelosi says . . . . . can't handle the subject right now . . . . .
Obviously I did watch. You should, too :-)
Let's all pray that we know and act on what God calls each of us to do to fight such evil.

Obama's Prayer Breakfast
On the same day President Obama spoke at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C., The Washington Post published a curious story by Anne E. Kornblut on the role religion plays in the Obama White House.
If we’re to believe Kornblut and the long list of oh-so-helpful unnamed Obama advisers she quotes, God is just all over that place. Case in point:
Some aide sends the president religious passages every morning on his BlackBerry, that come from, according to an unnamed official, “a variety of sources.”There you have it, case closed. The president is, like, totally holy.
An unnamed adviser says he worships regularly at Camp David.
More unnamed advisers insist he prays privately.
Yet another unnamed senior official says the president is “a prayerful guy.”
The timing of this bizarre non-story is no accident. In the weeks following Scott Brown’s stunning senate victory in Massachusetts, the president has ratcheted up an impressive, albeit totally manufactured, embrace of populist rhetoric.
You’re angry? He is too!
You hate profligate spending? He does too!
You’re mad at Wall Street? So is he!
And nothing complements a good populist screed like a few shout-outs to the Almighty. After all, in times of struggle, what do all those common folk in the square states do? They git out thar’ guns and thar’ religion! So after months of virtual silence about the man upstairs, the president’s spin doctors have undoubtedly assured him it’s time to get back on the God bandwagon.
Never mind that the president skipped last year’s National Day of Prayer, covered up religious insignia at Georgetown, canceled the flyover at “God & Country Day,” and gives regular shout-outs to atheists whenever it is, in fact, least appropriate.
Like today. During his speech at the Prayer Breakfast the president was sure to point out – again – that not everyone in America believes in God. He’s right, of course, but wouldn’t you think that at a prayer breakfast, he’d direct his remarks primarily to the population that prays? The humanist salute to solstice does not, in fact, count as a “prayer.”
While today’s speech was perhaps the president’s most muscular discussion of faith to date, it was rife with incongruities and contradictions that reveal just how incomplete his understanding of American faith actually is, regardless of what Ms. Kornblut tells us an unnamed adviser said.
The worst misstep of today’s speech? When the president said that
“God’s grace” is expressed “by Americans of every faith, and no faith, uniting around a common purpose, a higher purpose.”Uh, no it isn't -- unless my definition of atheism is different than his. Most atheists insist that God’s grace most certainly is not expressed through them, and that there are no “higher” purposes. While we may all come together for “a purpose” – like relief work in Haiti, poverty, AIDS, or world hunger – no atheist I know would consider this God's work.
It’s time the president end this hooey, and give up on his obsessive need to equate belief and non-belief. They are apples and oranges, and every time he does this he sounds less like the scholar he’s supposed to be and more like a petulant child.
But wait, there were other bizarre moments today:
Christ is nowhere to be found: The president is supposedly a Christian, yet there wasn’t a single mention of Christ or Jesus in today’s speech.
God and war: Obama said that God’s grace is expressed through the efforts of our armed forces. Really? Sarah Palin was publicly flayed for suggesting just this when she asked her congregation to pray for the military.
Americans are terrible: The president devoted a considerable portion of his speech to condemning Americans for becoming “absorbed with our abstract arguments, our ideological disputes, our contests for power.” It might have been nice to mention that we are also the most philanthropic country in the world, especially considering that even in our own time of economic struggle, we have generously opened our wallets to help rebuild another devastated nation.
Dissing evangelicals: In throwing a bone to the religious right, Obama doesn’t miss a chance to also insult them. “We see that in many conservative pastors who are helping lead the way to fix our broken immigration system. It’s not what would be expected from them, and yet they recognize, in those immigrant families, the face of God.” He may as well have just called them xenophobic nativists.
And no Obama speech would be complete without a shout-out to the other big guy upstairs – himself.
So he closed his Prayer Breakfast speech by congratulating himself for doing such a great job with his Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, just in case you momentarily forgot that 2012 is right around the corner.
All in all, it was actually fairly predictable – if you’ve ever heard this president discuss faith you know that he is incredibly uneasy with the themes and constructs of American belief, and often manages to slight the faithful just as he’s awkwardly trying to address them.
But rest assured, his friends in the liberal press – indeed, the ultimate Tower of Babel – will hail this speech as they do all the rest, and insist it proves he is indeed, as unnamed officials say, “a prayerful man.”

Partners With God?

China's Saving the Earth, One Baby at a Time
The following information brings to focus the eerily Orwellian culture that is blossoming in China and, given the non-reaction by Americans, spreading towards us at an alarming rate of speed.
Have you heard that China is at the forefront of saving the planet? Yep, and they are doing it one baby at a time. That is, killing one baby at a time, according to Max Schulz from the Washington Examiner:
It kind of figures that CNN would call this person a hero, doesn't it?
As Matthew Archbold says over at Creative Minority Report:
Have you heard that China is at the forefront of saving the planet? Yep, and they are doing it one baby at a time. That is, killing one baby at a time, according to Max Schulz from the Washington Examiner:
Want to save the planet from global warming? Forget about getting rid of coal plants or the internal combustion engine. Get rid of the humans. They're the true problem.
That insidious message gained new currency with the United Nations Copenhagen climate change circus this month. While the conference likely will be remembered for participants' failure to reach a binding emissions reduction agreement, its legacy may be that it brought mainstream respectability to the fringe left-wing notion that mankind is a scourge on the planet.
In so doing, it has breathed new life into population control proposals that had seemed discredited since the population bomb alarmists warned about in the 1960s and '70s failed to detonate.
During the Copenhagen summit, Chinese representatives chillingly claimed credit for stifling 400 million births since the implementation of their one-child policy in 1979. That policy, which generally limits couples to no more than one offspring, is enforced by government mechanisms including coerced abortion and sterilization.
By Beijing's calculations, its fascistic family planning regime has prevented 18 million tons of CO2 from being released into the atmosphere. Snuffing out lives to snuff out emissions seems a perfectly fair tradeoff not just to Beijing, but to opinion makers who have come to regard China as the global green exemplar.
That was the position taken by MIT graduate, Peggy Liu, chairwoman of the Joint U.S.-China Collaboration on Clean Energy in a recent debate sponsored by the Economist. Liu, a 2008 Time magazine "Hero of the Environment," argued that China must be given credit not just for what it is doing on climate change, but "for what it is not doing." By that she explained, "China's one-child policy reduces energy demand and is arguably the most effective way the country can mitigate climate change."
As Matthew Archbold says over at Creative Minority Report:
Can you imagine being present at a conference where they're boasting about 400 million forced abortions and not storming out or at least slamming the door. But no, our President and the elite of the world sat on their hands or worse . . . . even approved. 400 million?! That's not environmentalism, that's a holocaust.

Safe Schools Czar Kevin Jennings
Last week I learned about Kevin Jennings' and GLSEN's safe reading list for all public school children, and after what read (and saw), I wrote a post. Then I had to put it away for a bit.
There were two reasons for that:
Please believe me when I say that you WILL NOT really "get this" unless you go to the links.
Copying and pasting would increase the probability of younger readers seeing it. That being stated -- if you are not @ least 18 years old, PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THE LINKS. I do not think I have any young readers but if I do . . . . I need to stress the importance of having your parents read this FIRST and decide if you should read parts of the links.
Here is the intro to the info:
Here is the link where you can go to read the rest. I warn you, it is explicit and vile. But, you WILL NOT really "get this" unless you go to the links.
Here, also, is a link to a related story regarding Jennings and Planned Parenthood of which you should be aware.
Politically, the bottom line for me is that Obama is responsible for this current scandal because he appointed Jennings. He needs to explain why this garbage is appropriate and necessary for our kids. What does it have to do with our kid's having "a safe learning environment"?
What I want more than that is for Jennings to be removed immediately.

There were two reasons for that:
- I was so angry that I could not see straight much less blog.
- I was not sure how to present this info.
Please believe me when I say that you WILL NOT really "get this" unless you go to the links.

Here is the intro to the info:
Safe Schools Czar Kevin Jennings was the founder, and for many years, Executive Director of an organization called the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN). GLSEN started essentially as Jennings’ personal project and grew to become the culmination of his life’s work. And he was chosen by President Obama to be the nation’s Safe Schools Czar primarily because he had founded and led GLSEN (scroll for bio).
GLSEN’s stated mission is to empower gay youth in the schools and to stop harassment by other students. It encourages the formation of Gay Student Alliances and condemns the use of hateful words. GLSEN also strives to influence the educational curriculum to include materials which the group believes will increase tolerance of gay students and decrease bullying. To that end, GLSEN maintains a recommended reading list of books that it claims “furthers our mission to ensure safe schools for all students.” In other words, these are the books that GLSEN’s directors think all kids should be reading: gay kids should read them to raise their self-esteem, and straight kids should read them in order to become more aware and tolerant and stop bullying gay kids. Through GLSEN’s online ordering system, called “GLSEN BookLink,” featured prominently on their Web site, teachers can buy the books to use as required classroom assignments, or students can buy them to read on their own.

What Do You Think About Schools Teaching Affirmation of Homosexuality?
(CNSNews.com) – President Barack Obama’s safe schools czar, Kevin Jennings, wrote a foreword to a book in 1999 that called for elementary school children to explore their sexual identities, for teachers to incorporate homosexual themes in grades K-5, for discarding a “hetero-normative” approach to education and for “acknowledging children as sexual beings.”
Kevin Jennings, now the assistant deputy secretary for education who heads the Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools, began the foreword to Queering Elementary Education: Advancing the Dialogue about Sexualities and Schooling (Rowan & Littlefield Publishers) by writing about the Columbine school shooting in Colorado and comparing it to the beating-death of Matthew Shepard in Wyoming and, from there, to the issue of intolerance in schools . . . . .

“We remain silent in the face of intolerance,” wrote Jennings, then president of the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, an organization he founded. “We do little to teach the values of equality and justice. We simply fail to set any kind of expectation at all that these young people must respect each other even (especially?) when differences among them are vast and profound.”
“Nowhere is this failure more evident than when it comes to antigay prejudice, and nowhere is that particular failure more manifest than it is in our elementary schools,” wrote Jennings.
The book for which Jennings wrote the foreword includes essays from gay and lesbian educators that advocate teaching acceptance of homosexuality in elementary school and kindergarten. (The book is edited by William J. Letts IV and James T. Sears, who also wrote essays for the book.)
In his foreword, Jennings rejects the premise that sexuality should not be taught in elementary schools by arguing that it already is taught, but to instill and promote anti-gay hatred.
“I often find myself confronted with people who attack me for ‘bringing this issue into our schools,’” he wrote. “How laughable this statement is, I think. The reality is that this issue--anti-gay bigotry--is already in our schools. Little kids are learning to hate, and they’re learning it right now in elementary schools across America.”
“Face it: ‘That’s so gay’ has become a mantra of elementary-school children, a mantra invoked whenever a child encounters something or someone they do not like or understand or appreciate,” Jennings wrote. “But the hatred and attitudes they express are not the exception--they are the rule. And we shouldn’t be surprised when troubled people vent their rage in murderous fashions on those they learned it is okay to hate.”
Jennings also criticized conservative political figures in the foreword.
“I’ll admit that in a world populated by the likes of Jesse Helms and Gary Bauer and Pat Buchanan, we can’t blame our schools for all the prejudice we see visited upon queer people,” Jennings wrote. “After all, when the senate majority leader [Trent Lott] compares us to kleptomaniacs, it’s hard to blame bigotry entirely on one’s third grade teacher (although one wonders exactly who Mr. Lott had for his teachers given the profound level of ignorance that pours forth from his mouth).”
To accuse any individual who does not share Jennings’ opinion of hate is a means of silencing debate, said Gary Bauer, president of American Values, a pro-family advocacy group.
“I recall when Matthew Shepard was murdered and a number of people singled out James Dobson as being responsible,” Bauer told CNSNews.com. “Such charges are obscene. The only purpose is to try to silence debate and expression of traditional values.”
On page 9, one of the book’s editors, James T. Sears, states, “Acknowledging children as sexual beings or allowing males (particularly homosexuals) to teach in elementary grades dislodges the classroom from the ‘safe haven’ of heteronormativity.”
Sears, identified as an “independent scholar” living in South Carolina, continues, “Childhood innocence is a veneer that we as adults impress onto children, enabling us to deny desire comfortably and to silence sexuality.”
He also wrote, “Allowing children freedom to develop their sexual identities absent guilt or conditional love is an important attribute of queer households (and classrooms).”
"Heteronormative" is described in Chapter 9 as framing education in such a way that heterosexuality is normal while anything else is abnormal. On page 103, the chapter’s author William J. Letts IV, one of the other editors, denounces a text that explains the difference between boys and girls. He writes that schools push for boys to play with G.I. Joe action figures and girls to play with Barbie dolls as part of a larger social push.
“Boys don’t have to stand to urinate (nor do girls have to sit--they could squat),” wrote Letts, adding, “that’s just how they got conditioned.” Letts is a former elementary school science teacher.
In Chapter 3, Kathy Bickmore writes, “The first reason to discuss sexuality in elementary school is that it is already present in students’ lives. Assumptions about children’s ‘innocence’ regarding sexuality are outdated.”
On page 21, Bickmore, who taught education at the University of Toronto, wrote: “Sexuality and homosexuality in particular, is generally seen to be unsafe content for young children’s classrooms. This assumption misjudges what many children already know about themselves and their world, and also misses the point of what helps an ‘innocent’ develop into a self-sustaining ‘citizen.’”

This month, 53 House Republicans sent a letter to President Obama asking him to remove Jennings from the Department of Education.
“As the founder of the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN), Mr. Jennings has played an integral role in promoting homosexuality and pushing a pro-homosexual agenda in America's schools--an agenda that runs counter to the values that many parents desire to instill in their children,” the letter said.
“As evidence of this, Mr. Jennings wrote the foreword for a book titled Queering Elementary Education: Advancing the Dialogue About Sexualities and Schooling. Throughout his career, Mr. Jennings has made it his mission to establish special protections for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered students to the exclusion of all other students,” the letter said.
“The totality of Mr. Jennings' career has been to advocate for public affirmation of homosexuality,” it said. “There is more to safe and drug-free schools than can be accomplished from the narrow view of Mr. Jennings who has, for more than 20 years, almost exclusively focused on promoting the homosexual agenda.”
Jennings’ foreword indicates what kind of agenda he brings to his government office, said Bauer.
“A person’s history tells us a lot about what they will do in a position of power,” Bauer told CNSNews.com. “Most parents, including millions of people that voted for Barack Obama, will not be and should not be comfortable with someone like Mr. Jennings’ agenda for elementary school children.”
A spokesman for the Department of Education could not be reached for comment Tuesday despite repeated inquiries.
Also, two pro-homosexual rights groups--the Human Rights Campaign and the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation--did not respond to inquiries from CNSNews.com about Jennings and the book.
Another essay in Queering Elementary Education says, “Choosing literature for children with explicitly gay and lesbian themes, characters and situations is a direct approach to including part of many children’s’ home lives.”
This essay by James R. King and Jennifer J. Schneider, both of the University of South Florida, further states on page 131 that, “Teaching homosexuality is precisely about differences, learning from differences and broadening the ways we understand others. The combined fears of sexual taboo and job insecurity (either real or imagined) have proved sufficient to keep homosexuality in the classroom closet. We can no longer afford the heterosexist elitism. Our students already know better (and worse).”
An essay by Kevin P. Colleary, who was a doctoral student in education at Harvard University, asserts on page 157 that, “Whenever a discussion of family or community occurs--both topics of greater importance in almost all grades K-3 social-studies curriculum documents--there is an opportunity to talk about gay and lesbian families, and/or specific communities or neighborhoods where many gays and lesbians lives in almost every major city.”
The book’s fourth chapter begins with a scene of kindergarteners reenacting Rosa Parks and the Montgomery Bus Boycott. It goes on to ask why not envision another reenactment. “Children have made a banner that says ‘Stonewall Inn.’” The reference was to a June 1969 riot by homosexuals outside the Stonewall bar, a riot viewed as a civil rights watershed event among gay activists.
That chapter was written by Betsy J. Cahill of New Mexico State University and Rachel Theilheimer of Manhattan Community College. The two go on to write: “Teachers can tell children about the lesbian and gay people they know or know about. In the video, It’s Elementary, a teacher and children brainstorm ideas about gays and lesbians. They listen to music by musicians such as Elton John and Melissa Ethridge. In a discussion the teacher points out that the musicians are gay. This is one example of how a teacher might formally teach about gays and lesbians.”
In Chapter 8, Eric Rofes, who taught at Bowdoin College, writes about whether he influenced any of his elementary students to become gay. He was only able to locate eight former students from an elementary class he taught 20 years earlier. He found that these students were not gay.
But he said an openly homosexual teacher can encourage a new generation of activists. “Finally, the greatest influence of openly lesbian, gay and bisexual teachers may be on students’ relationships to political activism, and social movements,” he wrote. “By witnessing up close the importance of political advocacy on a teacher’s job security and social position, children’s understanding of the importance of activism and its relevance to their lives might be enhanced.”
In an essay addressing how universities can work with school districts, Kate Evans, a professional writer, wrote on page 245, “University administrators can place student teachers only in schools that include sexual orientation in their anti-discrimination policies. If university allies discover local districts without such policies, they can work toward change by speaking at school board meetings and talking with professional contacts.”
In the book’s final chapter, Margaret Mullehern and Gregory Martinez, both of Boise State University, write about the challenges of including homosexuality in school multicultural programs.
“As teacher educators, we feel responsible for educating pre-service elementary teachers about how they can help children understand the damaging effects of homophobia and the positive contributions of gays and lesbians,” they wrote on page 255. “Thus, the decision to include sexual orientation in our multicultural education courses was easy.”
“However, as this chapter details, teaching queerly required more than a conviction,” they continue on page 255. “Confronted with a lack of knowledge and remnants of the homophobia we had grown up with, we had to peel back layers of fear and discomfort and educate our selves.”

No, Mr. President
This is a wonderful YouTube video of a Baptist sermon on abortion and President Obama. John Piper is the preacher and he delivers this message spot on.
I found it via Fallible Blogma and I whole-heartedly agree that it’s a good reminder that the pro-life cause can be a great unifying instrument between Catholics and many other non-Catholic Christians. We need to continue to pray for more such unity.
FYI – It appears Pastor John Piper does some other good work, too, although I think John Calvin is his pope and he certainly misunderstands and misrepresents the Catholic Church in some of his work.
I did really enjoy listening to this sermon though – thank you, Fallible Blogma who credits "John"!

House of Ruth

from Catholic Teacher's Musings
When I was in 9th grade, I was part of a CCD program that focused on social justice concerns. Several times throughout the year, we would visit organizations and institutions that served the vulnerable and the poor.
I have a vivid memory of visiting a DC facility called The House of Ruth,
an organization that serves women and children who have suffered from circumstances related to domestic violence, poverty, and mental illness .
During the 1976 class trip, our small group of 14 year olds had the responsibility of visiting with the residents and stocking the pantry with groceries I believe we had brought with us.
Out of the corner of my eye I remember seeing a woman take some food and put it in her sweater as if she were "stealing" it.
I didn't understand her self-consciousness, her fear, or her shame.
At 14, the behavior confused me, but also made me more aware of the devastating issue of domestic violence affecting women all over the globe.
Nowadays, House of Ruth has 13 DC locations and may serve nearly 600 women at any given time.
**********
This past week the DC government has announced a 20 million dollar budget cut for homeless services. As a result, House of Ruth will lose close to $500,000 in funds. Whether or not the facility can survive with this loss of funds is highly questionable.
from the website:
House of Ruth helps women, children and families in greatest need and with very limited resources to build safe, stable lives and achieve their highest potential. We serve women, children and families who are striving to overcome domestic violence, homelessness, mental health disorders and substance abuse. Underlying their problems is the women’s experiences of neglect and abuse. Please say a prayer for the survival of House of Ruth and the women under their care.

Subsidiarity & Obama’s Health Care Plan
Subsidiarity, a principle that lies at the heart of Catholic social teaching, holds that decisions about social issues should be made at the most local level of society possible.
So how does Obama’s plan conflict with this? By seeking to intrude the federal government into intensely personal health-care decisions regarding matters like abortion and euthanasia.

White House Encourages Americans to Report Fellow Citizens That "Spread Disinformation"
The following post is from and full credit goes to Rachel @ Thoughts from a Conservative Mom . H/T to Rachel and to Paula @ A Catholic Harvest for her post, links and sourcing credits.
From the official White House blog, entitled "Facts Are Stubborn Things":
Yes, that's right, fellow citizens. The president is so concerned about the "truth" regarding his policies that he wants you to report dissent directly to the White House. Can you imagine if President Bush had posted a notice on the White House blog asking Americans to report on their fellow citizens, passing along "fishy" e-mails and links that they got with "disinformation" about his policies?
This isn't about trying to answer critics. This is about knowing who the opposition is, what they're saying, and how to silence them. A completely unconstitutional abuse of executive power by a man who believes that the president's powers are unlimited . . . . certainly not restrained by that outdated document, the American constitution.
Another jewel from the White House blog:
Yes, Mr. Obama, we've heard you make this claim repeatedly. The problem is, the facts do not line up with your claims. Your own words, and those of your cohorts, made on camera when you thought only supporters were listening, expose your current claims for the lies that they are:

we’re asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web
about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov."
