What Companies Said About Their Planned Parenthood Donations

Yes, I got into some VERY hot water by speaking out against Starbucks at my last private Catholic school teaching job. Starbucks matches their employees' donations to 501(c)(3) organizations, which includes PP. Knowing a bit about the Starbucks culture, that is probably a non-profit of choice for many! I lost ALL respect for the administrator of my school who just wanted me to "go along" and not care about it
. . . . as she sipped her Starbucks "frappa-mocha-locca-whatever-chino" while

strolling through the halls and giving the kids Starbucks as prizes.

I know we cannot avoid all places of business that do things like matching donations to non profits --501(c)(3) --- that are pro-abortion. All the more reason to de-fund PP. They should not (at the very least) have non-profit status.

On a happier note --

I have a young friend (that's you Kristina!) who worked for Starbucks for a couple of years. She wore her prolife t-shirts to staff meetings. Gotta love this kid! She also had the goal of donating to prolife organizations so that Starbucks would have to match funds there! Not sure if she ever had an extra nickel after paying all of her living expenses though.

But what a great spirit she had (has)! She took it on as a way to evangelize, There were reports of some very interesting conversations with co-workers and bosses!

PP, Starbucks and Walking our Talk

I will start with the comment I left  over at Father Longenecker's site, Standing on My Head, and I will conclude with quotes from his post and link back.

"Thank you for this post -- I will be quoting and linking to it. The comment about PP and their worldview got me thinking . . . .  PP is (unfortunately) in sinc with much of America's current "world view" -- the popular view. Those of us who disagree must pray hard, walk our talk and work together for change.
God help us.
One of the little (but important - in my opinion) changes I have made is to NOT drink Starbucks coffee as they are matching contributors to PP.  I have found that when I am bold enough it also gives me a conversation starter to pass on the word about PP and how they have infiltrated our society."

Father Longenecker's post is entitled: Planned Parenthood Shields Pedophiles

His source is this article about a woman who goes to Planned Parenthood clinics posing as a thirteen year old girl asking for an abortion. When she says the father is thirty one years old the PP employee tells her to lie, and because Indiana mandates parental consent for underage girls to have an abortion, the abortionist suggests the girl goes to Illinois where she can get an abortion without parental consent.

Click on the title of Father Longenecker's post to read the rest of what he wrote. And keep praying.
One thing that is so frightening to me is that there was a time in my life that I thought PP was a good institution that took care of women for a reasonable cost. I did not know about the abortions or all the rest of their very sleazy operation.

Starbucks Contributes to Planned Parenthood

I continue to NOT BUY FROM STARBUCKS.
Many people do not know that they contribute to Planned Parenthood.

Once I learned that they contribute to Planned Parenthood I experienced a rude but quick awakening to the fact that anything purchased from them was a donation in my name to help fund abortions. I cannot stomach that.

It may not be possible to know or avoid all companies that contribute to unethical organizations . . . but this is one example of a choice that is truly in my control.

Recently a student of mine challenged me on this info. The student came to me with the message that her parents did not believe the information I gave to the class.

I searched my sources to triple check that my info was up to date. I found only one (relatively unreliable) source that stated Starbucks no longer contributed to Planned Parenthood. Starbucks is still listed as a contributor at the Planned Parenthood website.

Here is the only source that I found stating Starbucks no longer contributed to PP. It is a response to a reader question over at EWTN.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just read an article in the All website written by Nicole
Flusche titled "My Pro-life Barista." Has Starbucks stopped their involvement with planned parenthood? Please let me know what current news you have about Starbucks as soon as possible.
In
Christ,
Connie

Dear Connie
Starbucks does not support Planned Parenthood any longer. This is according to *Life Decisions International corporate supporters of Planned Parenthood update.

Please note that

  1. Nicole Flusche's blog post talks about an experience with ONE Starbucks barista. As my friend Policraticus says, "I have a friend from Steubenville who is a barista who is very pro-life, very Catholic...that doesn't change the corporate decisions on 'charitable' contributions. Policraticus adds these points -
  2. "Planned Parenthood still lists Starbucks as a gift matching donator, and until Planned Parenthood or Starbucks says otherwise, I'd say we have to believe that the financial connection remains.
  3. EWTN forums are notoriously poor when it comes to social, economic and political information. The fact that Judie Brown does not even provide a link or article leads me to treat her claims as rather dubious."
* I tried to check out the Life Decisions International list but you had to purchase it! I did not do that. On the other hand, you can go straight to the PP site and check out their list.
