My Life with the Saints by James Martin
Christ in His Fullness by Bruce Sullivan
Jesus of Nazareth by Pope Benedict XVI
The Rosary by Kevin Orlin Johnson
There are so many to name. I will look them up and let you know. One book that I am reading now is titled "The Catholic Passion: Rediscovering the Power and Beauty of the Faith" by David Scott. I am reading it for my 3rd time.
Just now seeing this. How cool! I want to add "Miracle Hour" by Linda Schubert. I read it for the first time today and it is a wonderful method of prayer that covers 12 different ways of praying in 5 minute sections.
Scripture Matters by Scott Hahn
Dictionary of Catholic Devotions by Michael Walsh
This is a fabulous idea! Hope my list isn't too long... :) (In alpha order, because, well, I just couldn't not put them in alpha order!)
Adventures in Orthodoxy, by Dwight Longenecker
Behold Your Mother, by Heidi Hess Saxton

What a grand idea! Here goes!
Rediscovering Catholicism by Matthew Kelly

Hmmm? Books that will be important for good Catholics in another 1,000 years?
Or books that are particularly recommended for Catholics living in this time?
Every single commenter has recommended only newly written Catholics books--a severe limitation of eyesight, in my opinion.
For Catholics living in all times, St. Augustine's "City of God" or "Confessions" should be high on the list. Also add writings of some of the Church Fathers. Include the collected sermons of St. John Chrysostom, a Saint recognized by both the Eastern and Western parts of the Church.
The great Saints of the Catholic Counter-reformation also produced very important books that have stood the test of time. At the top of the list would be "The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius" and "Attaining Salvation" by St. Alphonsus Liguori.
"The Story of a Soul" written over 100 years ago by St. Therese (and with millions of copies behind it), is a personal favorite of mine and had a big impact on one of my daughters.
I highly recommend that old and proven Catholic books be included on this Blogger's Choice Catholic Reading List. [TAN Books specializes in reprinting these very valuable and living antiques of our religion.]
Hmmmm
A Father Who Keeps His Promises - Scott Hahn
Please Don't Drink the Holy Water - Susie Lloyd
Left to Tell - Immaculee Ilibagiza
Rise, Let Us Be on Our Way - PJPII

The Spiritual Life - Adolphe Tanquerey
Gosh there are so many more! I'll have to go to my bookshelf to get back to you! [the last 2 i have not read - but they come *highly* recommended, and i plan on getting them!]
In no particular order:
Francis of Assisi by G.K. Chesterton
Orthodoxy by G.K. Chesterton
The Story of a Soul by Therese of Lisieux
The Province of the Heart by Phyllis McGinley
Saint Watching by Phyllis McGinley
Fiction: In This House of Brede by Rumer Godden
anything by Flannery O'Connor (fiction and letters)
(I may be back....)
Wonderful idea! The following are my choices since I've been reading them on my vacation:
Stories of Padre Pio by Madama Katharina Tangeri (who IMHO is also a saint)
Through the Year with Fulton Sheen Compiled by Henry Dieterich
Saint Maximilian Kolbe Apostle of Our Difficult Age by Antonio Ricciardi, OFM, Conv.
No Wonder They Call it the Real Presence by David Pearson
In the Presnec of Our Lord by Fr. Benedict Groeschel.
For fun from last year...Saints Behaving Badly by Thomas J. Craughwell.
Sorry, that should be In the Presence of Our Lord...
Great recommendations everyone!!
I will update this post with blogger's choices each day until Sunday (evening). Then I will put all the choices into an alphabetized list and share!
What a nice resource this will be!
Two more to add:
Day by Day With the Catechism by Peter Giersch
and
Mary Day by Day edited by Rev. Charles G. Fehrenbach
I second Sister Mary Martha's recommendation for The Rosary by Kevin Orlin John and add his book Apparitions: Mystic Phenomenon and What They Mean. I also second Sarah R's recommendation of Come Be my Light and Shelley's suggestion of Left to Tell.
To Quell the Terror by William Bush is one of the most important books I have ever read.
On Being Catholic by Thomas Howard
Jesus, Peter, and the Keys: A Scriptural Handbook on the Papacy by Scott Butler, Norman Dahlgren, and David Hess.
The Fire Within by Thomas DuBay
Where We Got The Bible by Henry Graham

The Death of Innocents by Sister Helen Prejean
Crossing the Threshold of Hope by John Paul II
OK - so we are updated to date!
