Hmmm? Books that will be important for good Catholics in another 1,000 years?

Or books that are particularly recommended for Catholics living in this time?

Every single commenter has recommended only newly written Catholics books--a severe limitation of eyesight, in my opinion.

For Catholics living in all times, St. Augustine's "City of God" or "Confessions" should be high on the list. Also add writings of some of the Church Fathers. Include the collected sermons of St. John Chrysostom, a Saint recognized by both the Eastern and Western parts of the Church.

The great Saints of the Catholic Counter-reformation also produced very important books that have stood the test of time. At the top of the list would be "The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius" and "Attaining Salvation" by St. Alphonsus Liguori.

"The Story of a Soul" written over 100 years ago by St. Therese (and with millions of copies behind it), is a personal favorite of mine and had a big impact on one of my daughters.

I highly recommend that old and proven Catholic books be included on this Blogger's Choice Catholic Reading List. [TAN Books specializes in reprinting these very valuable and living antiques of our religion.]

I second Sister Mary Martha's recommendation for The Rosary by Kevin Orlin John and add his book Apparitions: Mystic Phenomenon and What They Mean. I also second Sarah R's recommendation of Come Be my Light and Shelley's suggestion of Left to Tell.

To Quell the Terror by William Bush is one of the most important books I have ever read.

On Being Catholic by Thomas Howard

Jesus, Peter, and the Keys: A Scriptural Handbook on the Papacy by Scott Butler, Norman Dahlgren, and David Hess.

The Fire Within by Thomas DuBay

Where We Got The Bible by Henry Graham

and definitely several more that I am forgetting.
