The copy/paste and photo elements of my blogger editor are not working . . . sorry for this abbreviated post, folks!
Reading I
Proverbs 9:1-6
"Forsake foolishness that you may live. . . ."
Responsorial Psalm
Psalm 34:2-7
Taste and See the Goodness of the Lord
Reading II
Eph 5:15-20
"Watch carefully how you live . . . . do not continue in ignorance,
but try to understand what is the will of the Lord."
Gospel
John 6:51-58
". . . . the bread that I will give
is my flesh for the life of the world . . . "
We are following John's Bread of Life Discourse. There is so much depth to John's Gospel.
John J. Pilch says it very well:
"John's Gospel is a favorite of many believers, but few ever plumb the depths
of his masterpiece. It takes careful reading, intense study and prayerful
reflection to tune correctly into John's wavelength. The clear sound that
emerges from such effort is nothing less than heavenly."
I am also reminded of 2 books by Scott Hahn:
The Lamb's Supper and Rome Sweet Home. In both books Scott goes into quite a bit of detail about the Eucharist. I am drawn again and again to these books. If you have not yet read these, I highly recommend them!
