I found this beautiful image at A Concord Pastor Comments who found it at a University website.
This statue brought back a memory from ~70 years ago. I guess, technically it is my Mom's memory. :-)
My Mom used to tell me a story about her childhood friend and distant cousin, Dale Whalen. I just love that name . . . Dale Whalen.
Anyway, as kids they had to memorize Bible verses each week for Sunday School (Church of Christ in Kentucky in the late 30s). Mom said that this was serious business and you HAD to be prepared.
Well, everyone did prepare. . . . everyone except, Dale. Can't you just picture an adorable little kid who also happened to be a bit of a scoundrel? He would boldy stand, when it was his turn, and say, "John 11:35 - Jesus wept. "
Every week. For at least a year or two as I remember the story.
The best part of the story is that Dale grew up to be a pastor. A good one, I hear tell. I also know that he was a good man with a deep love for Christ.
I just wish he had lived long enough to be part of our family's conversion to Catholicism. He would have been a great Catholic.
John 11:35 - "Jesus wept"
ps) That beautiful statue can be found at the memorial park in Oklahoma City.

This is a beautiful statue. I've never seen one like it. (Btw: If you'll head over to my place, you're liable to run into a delivery for you...)
