What Do We Do?

When Jesus called the first disciples he asked them to leave everything . . . . give it all up . . . . and follow Him.

What do we give up?

Group A  For most of us the answer is nothing, really.  We (hopefully, at least) go to Mass. I know and you know that many go only when it’s convenient.
Maybe we go to confession a few times a year. We pray before meals.
We give of our money, time, and talents as long as it isn’t too inconvenient or uncomfortable.
We don’t mind talking about Jesus to other people, as long as we don’t offend anyone.  We don’t want to do anything that’s going to make us look weird, fanatical, extreme, politically incorrect or radical.

But in the end . . . . what really matters?

Group B  If you are someone who puts your faith first -- beware the pitfalls of PRIDE (like that Pharisee in last Sunday's Gospel reading!)

I see a bit of myself in both categories. The one who gives and does what is comfortable and the one who feels prideful or judgmental.

And it just makes me realize I need God more than ever.

I need His grace and I'd best get my derriere in gear and head for (ASAP) confession, Adoration and some serious daily prayer that includes more Scripture, praise and LISTENING.

Time to re-prioritize once again.

It is constant course correction for this sinner.

O God, Be Merciful to Me a Sinner.  (Luke 18:13)

 JESUS CHRIST SAID:
If any man will follow me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life, shall lose it: and whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel, shall save it.

-Mark 8:35-35

Oh how we here on earth NEED that wake-up call periodically! Thank you for giving it to me just now.
