Novena for Life

H/T to AWTY, and Catholic Mom in Hawaii and MommyLife.
Cathy over @ A Bit of the Blarney is posting a link to the Knight's of Columbus novena day by day.

A year ago, George Bush officially dedicated January 20th as Sanctity of Human Life Day in our country. Barrack Obama, in contrast, has his pen poised to sign a death warrant for the unborn, in the form of the Freedom of Choice Act. Our best (and, at this time, probably only) hope to prevent this atrocity is prayer. There has been a call to arms in the Church. All are invited and encouraged to start praying a novena today for the prevention of FOCA. If we begin our rosaries for this specific intention today, the novena will end on the 20th of January.
The Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) is set to be signed if Congress passes it on January 21-22 of 2009. All limitations on abortion will be lifted if this becomes a law and will result in the following:

1) All hospitals, including Catholic hospitals will be required to perform abortions upon request. If this happens Bishops vow to close down all Catholic hospitals, more than 30% of all hospitals in the United States.

2) Partial birth abortions would be legal and have no limitations.

3) All U.S. tax payers would be funding abortions.

4) Parental notification will no longer be required.

5) The number of abortions is estimated to increase by a minimum of 100,000 annually.

Perhaps most importantly the government would have control in the issue of abortion. Really contemplate for a moment on the ramifications of this:
It could logically lead to . . . .
  • a future amendment that would force women, by law, to have abortions in certain situations (rape, down syndrome babies, etc.)
  • regulation on how many children women are allowed to have
  • insurance companies refusing to cover high risk pregnancies or more than a certain number of pregnancies but paying for abortions
Remember that with God all things are possible and the power of prayer is undeniable. Join others around the world in this novena. If you happen upon this article later than January 12, 2009 do not let that stop you from praying with us.
