Good Morning!

We all woke this morning to a foggy, pre-winter kind of a day. Perfect for views of the lake through a film of fallen clouds. Coffee steam lifting lazily from our cups. Son cheerfully making his own breakfast and sitting with us. Text from college daughter wishing us a good morning. Dog camped outside against the front door breathing in the cool, moist air.

As son and I passed a favorite pasture on the way to school/work he commented on the the fog hockey (a private joke between us that I adore).

Made it to school/work in plenty of time for prayers in the chapel . . . . .

All at once it dawned on me that son was rolling next to me. Upright, mind you, but "rolling," not walking.

"Hun," I said. "Why are you wearing your heelies and not your school shoes?"
He looked down incredulously and his eyes widened in horror -- I mean sheer horror.
He had forgotten to put on his school shoes. Remember, we are talking a Catholic School here!
Heelys don't blend, if you know what I mean. The dress code is strict and it definitely does not allow for wheels on shoes. Wheels on backpacks or wheelchairs -- ok
Wheels on shoes -- no way!

His eyes welled up with tears that he quickly brushed away. I could see his brain shift into gear. My guy is a problem solver. We literally had about 2 minutes to devise a recovery plan.
  1. pop wheels out
  2. check bookbag (nope, not there)
  3. check car (not there either)
  4. check homeroom (no luck)
  5. check lost and found
  6. call Dad
Well, at this point. The fog has lifted and it is a bright cold morning. Somehow that fog made me feel safe and almost hidden from problems!
My kiddo is probably getting reprimanded for being out of uniform. I am scratching my head wondering where in the world the shoes could be. Dad is bewildered, as well.

Dad checked his car (nope)
Dad checked the "new place" -- where we all worked last night until late, late. (nope)
I think WalMart will be getting our business because the real school shoes HAVE to show up at some point . . . . right?

Boys are so cute...I have caught my sons walking out the door with the wrong school shoes, with a shirt on inside out, with toothpaste on a cheek (don't ask), and,of course, with hair uncombed.

But they've never done the heelies thing...but give them time!

Still, it sounds as if you had a lovely morning.

I love how your day started with the fog and the beautiful lake, but felt my panic rise with yours over the lost school shoes! Agh! Been there! And, you know, of course, that as soon as you get some new ones, the old ones will show up!

Thanks for dropping by, you two! I think I am finally getting back into the swing of things.
I have so missed blogging!
Yep, Lisa, they showed up, just as you predicted.
Bia, I agree that boys are so cute!
We JUST got haircuts here so the great escape from the house with uncombed hair is not quite so obvious! :-)

Indeed, it was a lovely morning -- and today is, too. You guys (as we used to say in PA) have a fabulous day!
