How Old Is Your Church?

If you are a Lutheran, your religion was founded by Martin Luther, an ex- monk of the Catholic Church, in the year 1517.

If you belong to the Church of England, your religion was founded by King Henry VIII in the year 1534 because the Pope would not grant him a divorce with the right to remarry.

If you are a Presbyterian, your religion was founded by John Knox in Scotland in the year 1560.

If you are a Protestant Episcopalian, your religion was an offshoot of the Church of England founded by Samuel Seabury in the American colonies in the 17th century.

If you are a Congregationalist, your religion was originated by Robert Brown in Holland in 1582.

If you are a Methodist, your religion was launched by John and Charles Wesley in England in 1744.

If you are a Unitarian, Theophilus Lindley founded your church in London in 1774.

If you are a Mormon (Latter Day Saints), Joseph Smith started your religion in Palmyra, N.Y., in 1829.

If you are a Baptist, you owe the tenets of your religion to John Smyth, who launched it in Amsterdam in 1605.

If you are of the Dutch Reformed church, you recognize Michaelis Jones as founder, because he originated your religion in New York in 1628.

If you worship with the Salvation Army, your sect began with William Booth in London in 1865.

If you are a Christian Scientist, you look to 1879 as the year in which your religion was born and to Mrs. Mary Baker Eddy as its founder.

If you belong to one of the religious organizations known as 'Church of the Nazarene," "Pentecostal Gospel." "Holiness Church," "Pilgrim Holiness Church," "Jehovah's Witnesses," your religion is one of the hundreds of new sects founded by men within the past century.

If you are Catholic, you know that your religion was founded in the year 33 by Jesus Christ the Son of God, and it is still the same Church.

Hello there; I have just read your 'about me', and you sound like a normal, beautiful, happy healthy, loving individual.

I am a happy granpa of 7, with 4 lovely daughters and a wonderful wife, and I am a follower of Christ Jesus. and a student of Christian Science.

In view of the view I got of you from reading your profile, I am wondering why you post this "how old is your church?"

is it to make yourself feel superior?

or to make others feel inferior?

or do you intend it as a warning to all us 'unwashed', who are headed for eternal damnation unless they join your church?

I am happy that you are happy walking your path. and that you believe (are convinced) that your church was founded by Christ.

I and millions of others do not believe that, however.

why not leave the rest of us to walk our own paths?

"ye shall judge them by their fruits".

let's realize that every individual is a child of God, and let's simply follow Christ's command, love God, and your neighbour as yourself. "love one another, as I have loved you."

regards,

Verndigger

Pardon me Mr. Verndigger, but this blog was not forced in your face nor suggested to you to read because this author thinks you are living your life incorrectly. YOU, sir, are the one who found and read it and I think that YOU need to live and let live. Do not bombard this author with your nonsense and guilt.

Hi, Joelle; you state that I 'found' Soutenu's blog - and of course, I cannot suppose but that is the very purpose of blogging - for others to find it.
the internet is a great communications tool, and my sense is that it can be used to create greater harmony amongst we earthlings.

perhaps you read more into my response than is there; I was basically asking a question - what is the purpose of putting one religion on a pedestal above all others?
I did not intend to nor did I feel that I was doing any 'bombarding';
nor that what I said is 'nonsense'; and I certainly do not feel any guilt whatsoever about my approach to and living of Christianity.

as I said in my original post, if we all live Love, the world will be a better place.

be well,

Verndigger

P.S. to the blog owner and Joelle:

Romans 11:36 "for of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever" (KJV) is translated in the NEB as "Source, Guide, and Goal of all that is, to whom be glory forever".

with brotherly love,

Verndigger

Dear Verndigger,
Thanks for reading and commenting. I started this blog as a literal notebook to keep all things together as they relate to my faith journey.

Since it is a blog, it is an open book and you are welcome to read it.

I found this particular information for this post while trying to put together the timeline of Reformation and beyond. I have listed the source. I liked the information so much that I wanted to preserve it where I could find it easily.

Since I am a Catholic and this blog is so named; you can surmize that I have found the fullness of truth in the Catholic Church. Right before I read your comment I posted another article that is sort of along the same line. We may not agree but I certainly do not want to offend.

God bless.

Most Sincerely,
Soutenus
