Memorial of St. Charles Borromeo

Today is Memorial of St. Charles Borromeo (Bishop) and I find that a wonderful "coincidence."

Today, as citizens vote, it is nice to know that the Church calendar remembers St. Charles whose endeavors on behalf of the 19th Ecumenical Council of Trent (1545-1564) were especially meritorious and fruitful. That is politics in its most positive light.

Catholic Culture has some good suggestions for today. Here are a couple from CC and a couple from me:

Things to Do:

  • Pray the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin in imitation of St. Charles who recited it daily.
  • Learn more about the Council of Trent.
  • Meditate on the common priesthood bestowed on all of us at baptism and confirmation.
  • Remember that God is bigger than an election and that His heavenly kingdom is our real goal.
  • Do something today (and everyday) to live & spread the faith, mindful that "every Catholic is responsible for the salvation of those with whom he lives!" (Pius Parsch)
